A local charitable trust in the Palmerston North region is seeking an experienced dentist to provide community dental care from a new one-chair mobile dental unit.

This is a community-focused position rather than a fee-driven private practice role. The dental service is based on the Trust grounds alongside other healthcare and social services, including general medical and community support services.

You will work as the sole dentist, supported by a dedicated dental assistant and coordinator who will manage patient bookings. An experienced senior dentist will also be available by telephone during working hours for clinical support when required.

The role provides general dental care including restorations, hygiene treatment, extractions, endodontics, periodontics and pain relief. Candidates should have at least two years of clinical experience and be confident working independently, including managing more complex surgical extractions.

This position would particularly suit a dentist who enjoys community-based healthcare, rural communities and working within a small, close-knit team. Strong communication skills and a genuine interest in providing appropriate care to the local community are important.

Palmerston North combines the amenities of a regional city with easy access to the wider Manawatū countryside. The city offers a good selection of cafés, restaurants, cultural attractions and outdoor activities and is approximately 1 hour 40 minutes by road from Wellington.

Candidates must be eligible for registration with the Dental Council of New Zealand (DCNZ). This typically includes dentists qualified in New Zealand, Australia, the UK, Ireland, Canada* or the United States*. Candidates with other qualifications should check their eligibility with the DCNZ before applying.

USA and Canadian qualifications must be from DCNZ recognised accredited dental schools.
