An exciting opportunity has become available for a dentist to join the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Otago in Dunedin. This role offers a unique combination of teaching, clinical practice and professional development within one of the world’s leading dental schools.
The University of Otago Faculty of Dentistry has an international reputation for excellence in clinical training and research. Established in 1907, it is New Zealand’s National Centre for Dentistry and is consistently ranked among the top dental schools globally in the QS World University Subject Rankings.
The role is based within the modern University of Otago Dental Hospital and may involve working in teaching clinics or urgent care clinics. Responsibilities include supervising dental students, providing clinical treatment to patients and collaborating with specialist colleagues on complex cases.
The University offers flexibility regarding working arrangements. The position may be offered as a full time permanent role or as a long-term locum placement lasting four to ten months, with the potential for repeat visits or longer-term appointments. Start dates are flexible throughout the year.
This opportunity is particularly attractive for dentists considering postgraduate study, as it provides the chance to explore advanced training programmes in areas such as orthodontics, periodontics, endodontics, paediatric dentistry and prosthodontics.
The successful candidate must hold registration with the Dental Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate. Dentists with any level of experience will be considered, although four or more years of clinical experience is preferred. Candidates should have strong communication skills, enjoy teaching and mentoring students, and be confident providing high quality patient care.

Candidates must be eligible for registration with the Dental Council of New Zealand (DCNZ). This typically includes dentists qualified in New Zealand, Australia, the UK, Ireland, Canada* or the United States*. Candidates with other qualifications should check their eligibility with the DCNZ before applying.
USA and Canadian qualifications must be from DCNZ recognised accredited dental schools.
